Readable big text combines a short message, bold letterforms, strong foreground–background contrast, generous spacing, and a test from the real viewing distance.
Reduce the reading task
Every extra character reduces the size available to the important ones. Remove greetings, repeated context, and details the reader already knows.
Use familiar vocabulary and put the differentiating word first. A person searching for Gate 4 should see GATE 4 before any polite instruction.
Build a visible hierarchy
Make the primary word or number largest. Use a second line only for confirmation, not for a competing headline.
Bold, open letterforms usually hold up better than thin or decorative styles. Leave clear space around the text so the screen does not look crowded.
Test the real conditions
Walk to the distance where the message must work. Check it under similar light, through any glass, and while approaching from the expected angle.
If the important word is not immediate, shorten the phrase before increasing brightness or adding motion.

How many words work best in big text?
One to five words is a strong default for distance reading. More can work when the viewing distance is short or the screen is large.
Are all bold fonts readable?
No. Prefer bold fonts with open shapes and clear differences between similar characters. Avoid compressed or heavily decorative letterforms.
How should I test readability?
View the message from the actual distance and angle, in similar light, and ask whether the key word is understood immediately.
